Who We Are
DJ is a former AH-1W attack helicopter pilot and instructor pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he led over 200 combat missions during a combined three deployments in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. As President of Prescient, DJ communicates and implements the organization’s strategy and vision. This includes overseeing operations, global partnerships, strategic planning, technology integration, and staffing. Previously, DJ served as the Chief of Staff at Livingston International and Director of Innovation and Supply Chain at Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores (SHO). DJ earned his B.Sc. in Systems Engineering from The United States Naval Academy and his MBA from the USC Marshall School of Business. Additionally, DJ is a graduate of the Marine Corps’ Weapons and Tactics School. He continues to serve as a reserve officer in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Director | Operations & Strategy
Jack joined Prescient at the start of 2015 as a member of the Due Diligence Practice, focusing on emerging markets due diligence projects. He has since led many of Prescient’s most complex and sensitive engagements on behalf of clients in the legal, financial services, automotive, manufacturing, and telecommunications sectors, among others. He now serves as Director of Operations & Strategy and is responsible for all operations across the Due Diligence, Investigations, Cyber, and Intelligence Practices. Before joining Prescient, Jack worked in the Asia Pacific headquarters of German industrial conglomerate ThyssenKrupp, focusing on market intelligence efforts in Southeast Asia. Jack earned a B.A. in Political Science and Chinese Language from the University of Notre Dame and is proficient in Mandarin Chinese.
John Kula, CFE
Practice Lead | Due Diligence
John helps organizations solve problems in emerging markets, including some of the most challenging corporate jurisdictions in the world. His extensive experience working in law enforcement, corporate security, and data analytics enables a sophisticated approach to identify and resolve risk challenges for our clients. Prior to joining Prescient, John served as a Managing Member of Forenetics, LLC, as a Principal in the regulatory risk and investigations practice at London-based Control Risks, and as Senior Managing Director in the global investigations practice at FTI Consulting, just to name a few. John earned a B.S. in Psychology from Benedictine University and an MBA from DePaul University.
Patrick Murphy JD, CPA, CFE, CAMS
Practice Lead | Investigations
Patrick advises the firm’s clients in mitigating corporate risks including fraud, theft, and insider threats, and advises major law firms on complex litigation support matters. A former supervisory special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Patrick led investigations of high-profile public corruption and financial crimes during his 25 years of service, including the successful investigation, prosecution, and conviction of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. Patrick was also a Director of Forensic, Investigative, and Dispute Services at Grant Thornton prior to joining Prescient. He earned a B.Sc. in Accounting from DePaul University and a J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
Practice Lead | Cyber
Max is an intelligence & security risk professional skilled in protective intelligence, social media investigations, open source collection and dark web monitoring. As a veteran of the USMC Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team (F.A.S.T), he has experience in security risk assessments, crisis assessment and response, online and offline profiling, pattern of life analysis, and red-teaming. He specializes in helping clients assess and expose digital vulnerabilities to allow for effective threat mitigation and/or response. Max earned a B.A. in Intelligence Studies from Mercyhurst University.

Prescient’s Intelligence Practice Lead is deeply rooted in the U.S. intelligence community and has extensive experience conducting and analyzing HUMINT, ELINT, IMINT, OSINT, SIGINT operations in support of the nation’s foreign policy and national security interests. Prior to joining Prescient, he served as a Case Officer and Collection Management Officer with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Directorate of Operations. As head of Prescient’s Intelligence Practice, he helps global leaders in politics, law and private enterprise address sensitive internal and external challenges.
